Once again, I cannot seem to write on a consistent timetable. Apologies. I'll try to be better about it. Now...
I have recently (as of maybe two weeks ago) discovered a new song. I'm not sure if I can describe exactly why I like this song, but here goes: there's a driving bass line, which is always good; the lyrics give them impression that one should relax and enjoy life, which is very much in line with my personal philosophy; and there's a piano part that makes this sound like a much older song. Overall, the song sounds somewhat like Adele. If you didn't already know, I'm not an Adele fan. It's not that her music is terrible, it's just not my genre. But somehow, this song by Serena Ryder has wriggled through my ear canal and gleefully races through my synapses. It's called Stompa, and I like it. I've even found a remix which I like (no surprise there).
Now some other shocking news: I've started wearing jeans. I'll pause while you pick your collective jaw off the floor. ...That do it? Okay. So, the big question: "WHY THE H-E-DOUBLE-HOCKEY-STICKS ARE YOU WEARING JEANS?" It's a good query. For a non-conformist like myself, this is a step in the wrong direction.
I thought about this today and I think I have an understanding. Being a non-conformist means that you wish to be different, you want to stand apart. You don't want to wear jeans just because everyone else is. I still don't. I bought one pair of jeans because my workplace has Casual Friday, which means wearing jeans and a t-shirt to work. Part of me wanted to join my work culture. Another part thought that it'd be good to have a pair of work pants. Cargo pants are great -- roomy, lots of pockets -- but they can't take a beating like jeans can.
Okay, so the first pair may be excusable. How about the second pair? Well, I blame Denton and Alesha for that. If you don't know, you can ask them. Or find out in a couple weeks.
...I think I may need to explain a previous paragraph. Non-conformists don't want to "just go with the flow" but that doesn't mean that they want to be excluded. I don't want to be like everyone else, but I also want to belong to a group. Maybe that's a dichotomy, but that's my non-conformity. If you've got a problem with it... we'll have to dichotomize. Err... agree to disagree. Okay. Time to split.
